Santa Barbara County Employees' Retirement System "SBCERS"

Retiree Health Insurance Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment occurs each year in October and is usually the only opportunity each year to enroll in or change healthcare plans.  Plans, benefits and rates may differ from year to year and from one Plan Sponsor to the next.  The insurance plan year runs from January 1 through December 31each year.

Mark your calendars every year for the next plan year's Open Enrollment even though we send information annually, so that Open Enrollment doesn't pass you by and you don't miss out on any insurance news. Your next opportunity to make health plan changes will be in October 2015, for the 2016 plan year.  Keep each Guide to Retiree Health Plans & Open Enrollment book on-hand all year and consult it (or the electronic version linked below) for important benefit and contact information.

Open enrollment for the 2015 plan year was from October 6, 2014 through October 31, 2014 and enrollments, changes and cancellations1 (if any) had to be received NO LATER THAN October 31st. A new prescription benefit was introduced for 2015 as an additional prescription plan choice for Medicare A and B enrolled retirees who participate in 3 of the 4 Blue Shield medical plans.  Out-of-Pocket maximums changed for 2015 as well as premium rates.
